Dominique Méreuze, President of FFPLUM

Dominique Méreuze, President of FFPLUM

It is with deep sadness that we note the death of Dominique Méreuze, President of the FFPLUM.

Dominique was a great leader and a wonderful man. He became President of the French flying federation FFPLUM in 1998 upon retirement from the French Police Service. In the next 17 years he saw the FFPLUM membership grow from 4,000 to more than 17,000 today. This was in no small part thanks to his tireless dedication to the federation and also to microlighting in general.

Together with former BMAA Chairman Keith Negal, Dominique created the European Microlight Federation and became its founding President. He travelled around France and the rest of Europe, fighting to protect the relative freedoms of lightweight flyers and he gained respect from his peers wherever he went. He will be very much missed.

Dominique died on 10th June from a long illness. His wife Yvette said:

"Right until the end he found the energy to fight and he enjoyed life to the full. He was a great man, a loving husband and the best father in the world. He has taken off for the last time and now looks after his family from the sky that he loved so much".

I had the pleasure of knowing Dominique well. We send our condolences on behalf of all BMAA members to Yvette and her family.
